Green Buses Capacity Building Program

Aiming for preparing and supporting national skills to face future challenges

 In a step aimed at developing Emirati competencies, enhancing skills, building capabilities of employees, boosting their readiness in facing challenges of the future, and keeping pace with the rapid shift towards a smart and sustainable transport sector, the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi, has announced the launch of its Green Buses Capacity Building Program.

Through this innovative program, the ITC seeks to develop capacities in the field of green buses and enhance the specialized skills of Emirati competencies, and strengthen the skills of young UAE engineers through a series of specialized technical internal and external training programs. The training programs are carried out in collaboration with the ITC’s pioneering partners in the field of hydrogen-fueled and electric buses from South Korea and the People’s Republic of China. The program also offers the opportunity to exchange knowledge with international technical experts, which in turn, will qualify the UAE employees to lead the planning and operations procedures of the hydrogen-fueled and electric buses and their infrastructure.

This program aims to enhance the development and localization of innovative solutions, dedicated to the advancement of the public transport system in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, adjusting it to become more suitable to the local environment and thereby achieving the aspirations of the UAE’s wise leadership in supporting sustainable development goals (SDGs) and building a brighter and more sustainable future for current and future generations.

Moreover, the program is part of the Integrated Transport Centre's efforts to establish an integrated and sustainable transport system that upholds the development process in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, enhances the quality of services provided to the community and supports the Emirate's strategic plans in building a sustainable economy based on knowledge and innovation, where human capital is the main driving force of its growth and sustainability.

The Green Buses Capacity Building Program is a key focus of the ITC’s strategy in its move towards the use of hydrogen-fueled and electric buses in the public transport bus fleet in the emirate. The program also strives towards building the competencies of the national working force, enabling them to acquire world-class expertise in this area to support the ITC’s transition towards a clean and sustainable transport system, based on its keenness to support environmental conservation and sustainable development in order to further develop the overall quality of life in Abu Dhabi.
