DARB – Abu Dhabi Tolling System

“Darb” toll gate system is one of several strategic projects that aims to reduce traffic congestion in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and promote the use of public transport.

The toll gate system was introduced in the application of Law No. (17) of 2017 on Road Tolls in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, issued by the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Fees

vehicles passing tolling gates in below duration will be charged AED 4 for each transaction

Morning
07:00 – 09:00 AM
Evening
05:00 – 07:00 PM

Except for sundays and official holidays

Exemptions

Vehicles passing through the tolling gates are exempted from the traffic tolling fees in the following cases:

Automatically exempted vehicles (without exemption request:)

Ambulances armed forces and civil defence vehicles which are holding there numbers and logo.
Public transport buses.
Motorcycles.
Authorized public taxi vehicles in Abu Dhabi.
Authorized school buses by Integrated Transport Centre.
All passenger buses (capacity has been specified by the licensing authority for 26 passengers and above).
Vehicles holding the logo and numbers of Abu Dhabi Police.
Ministry of Interior, or other Local Emirates Police.
Trailer vehicles.

Daily and Monthly Caps

Daily and monthly caps will be applied on vehicles passing tolling gates in the peak hours as the following:

Daily Cap
AED 16
Monthly Cap

AED 200  for the first vehicle

AED 150  for the second vehicle

AED 100  for each additional vehicle

Individuals who own more than one vehicle can re-order their vehicles in the system and the new order will be applied in the following month

Fines

The fines will be applied in the tolling gate system according to its type as follows:

Unregistered vehicle

A fine will be issued for Unregistered vehicles after passing the tollgate when the grace period ends (Ten working days) starting from the passing date as follows:

100 AED for the first time
200 AED for the second time
400 AED for the third time and more

Insufficient Balance Fine

A fine will be issued with the amount AED 50 for each transaction in case of insufficient balance for vehicles registered out of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, after the grace period of five working days ends without enough balance in user’s wallet.

Manipulation Fine

A fine will be issued with the amount of 10,000 AED for manipulating with the vehicle's license plate to evade the payment of traffic fees

Damaging Fine

A fine will be issued with the amount of 10,000 AED for damaging any of the electronic payment machines or toll gates

Maximum/accumulated violation(s)

The fine shall not exceed AED 10,000 for each owner of a vehicle that the driver has committed a violation, in accordance with the Traffic Tariff Law or the regulations issued in implementation of it.

The total fines imposed for cumulative violations for a single vehicle, shall not exceed the amount of AED 25,000 during the year from the date of the first violation.
