Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, 26 August 2026 – The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, in collaboration and joint coordination with the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, announced the inauguration and operation of 30 advanced open public transport bus shelters of the approved design, which have been fully distributed and installed across vital and strategic locations in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This vital project aligns with both parties' commitment to fostering social responsibility and community contribution, as well as integrating efforts to develop a smart and sustainable transport infrastructure, elevate the quality of public transport services, and provide comfortable, enhanced solutions that guarantee passenger well-being, happiness, and an upgraded daily experience across different areas of the Emirate.

The project encompassed executing the necessary technical studies to select appropriate locations and install modern shelters powered by solar energy to feed the lighting systems and information panels for public transport services, thereby supporting the Emirate's direction towards adopting sustainable and eco-friendly solutions. The 30 installed shelters are geographically distributed to cover the needs of public transport passengers across the Emirate; the Abu Dhabi Region received 15 shelters serving vital locations such as Shakhbout City, Baniyas East, Khalifa City, Shamkha, Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi Island (Al Mushrif), and Mohammed bin Zayed City. Additionally, 12 shelters were installed in the Al Ain Region covering Hili, Al Jimi, Al Tiwayya, Al Markhaniyyah, Al Muwaij'i, Al Qattarah, and Zakhir, while 3 shelters were deployed in Zayed City within the Al Dhafra Region.

In this context, Dr Abdulla Hamad AlGhfeli, Acting Director General of the Integrated Transport Centre, stated: "The official launch and operation of this advanced bus shelter network directly translates the Centre's vision to lead the transport sector and develop an integrated, smart, and sustainable infrastructure that meets Abu Dhabi's future aspirations. We have ensured the integration of cutting-edge environmental solutions by rendering these shelters 100% solar-powered to operate both the eco-friendly lighting systems and digital passenger information panels. This project exemplifies the success of our funding and community integration model with the Ma’an Authority, channeling resources into impactful public initiatives that elevate quality of life and support the journey toward digital transformation and sustainable mobility across the Emirate."
