The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) Develops Comprehensive Transport Plan for Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix

In line with its vision to support the success of major events hosted by the Emirate, the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has announced the organisation of mobility and transport during the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix. The event is set to take place from the 5th to the 8th of December, mobilising all necessary resources to meet transportation needs according to the highest international standards. This effort contributes to strengthening the Emirate's position both locally and globally.

Traffic Management

Abu Dhabi Mobility stated that its traffic management team would organise and manage traffic through the Traffic Management Centre on Yas Island by adjusting traffic signals to ensure smooth flow. Variable Message Signs (VMS) will be used to update the public on traffic developments around the event area, in coordination with strategic partners.

Road Service Patrols will also be deployed to manage traffic, support road users in emergencies such as fuel supply, tyre changes, or battery recharging, and use towing vehicles to clear disabled vehicles from roads to the nearest safe location, ensuring road user safety.

Organisation of Public Bus and Taxi Operations

Abu Dhabi Mobility has allocated 80 public buses to transport visitors and event organisers. The buses will operate on the Yas Circuit Circular route, transporting attendees from Yas Mall parking areas (near the Tryano gate and Warner Bros parking) to the race track gates, Yas Island hotels, and entertainment zones. Additionally, approximately 2,100 taxi vehicles have been assigned to serve the public and event organisers throughout the event.

The Abu Dhabi Mobility team will manage taxi movements before and during the event and its accompanying entertainment activities. Dedicated pickup and drop-off points will be available near the race area, entertainment zones, and hotels hosting firework displays. The service will cover standard and private taxis including Uber and Careem, with a comprehensive plan to ensure service quality and activate special event fare structures.

Supervisors and monitors from Abu Dhabi Mobility and operating companies will be present to organise movement and guide visitors to designated parking areas and taxi/bus stops. Traffic supervisors will be stationed in congested areas to ensure seamless operations in coordination with the Formula 1 management and Abu Dhabi Police, addressing any challenges visitors may face.

Since the launch of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi Mobility has been an active strategic partner alongside the organising committee where it contributes to transport and traffic management in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Police. The efforts are led by a qualified Emirati task force capable of efficiently managing large-scale events.

In addition to Formula 1 races, Abu Dhabi Mobility plays a pivotal role in supporting various events hosted by the capital as part of its mission to contribute to economic and social development. Abu Dhabi Mobility continues to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors of Abu Dhabi through an integrated, safe, and comfortable transportation system.
