The Joint Committee for Traffic Safety launches the "Work Accelerators" Plan to Enhance Collaboration among Government Entities

Abu Dhabi, on Thursday, August 8, 2024 In a bid to improve traffic safety, reduce road accidents, and lower the rates of fatalities and serious injuries, the Traffic Safety Technical Committee, guided by the Joint Traffic Safety Committee led by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has launched the Work Accelerators plan to improve traffic safety in the emirate. The Joint Committee comprises members from the Integrated Transport Centre, the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police, and the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi.

The Work Accelerators involve the development and execution of interactive plans among teams from various relevant government entities in Abu Dhabi to tackle challenges and achieve ambitious objectives in a short period of time. The application of work accelerators to reduce fatalities is regarded as a contemporary practice that ensures swift accomplishment and takes advantage of modern technologies to achieve more favourable outcomes. It promotes the integration and collaboration of national governmental and private efforts to provide immediate and urgent solutions to existing challenges, establish a timeframe for implementing plans, and then evaluate the results.

The Work Accelerators endorsed by the Traffic Safety Technical Committee prioritise intensive programmes in six key areas: analysing traffic accidents and extracting lessons learned; enhancing pedestrian and micro-mobility safety; ensuring delivery drivers' safety; improving freight transport safety; addressing driver behaviour; and reviewing road speed limits. These efforts are led by teams consisting of leaders and experts in traffic safety. The Work Accelerators plan is structured into three stages as follows:

1. Design: Forming Work Accelerator teams, identifying challenges, and developing intensive programmes to achieve objectives.
2. Acceleration: Implementing design outputs in practice to accomplish team-assigned goals, ensuring rapid and tangible results.|
3. Delivery: Achieving and measuring outcomes reached by government Work Accelerator teams, ensuring their sustainability.

Eng. Abdulrahman Al Shizawi, Head of the Traffic Safety Technical Committee stated that the committee has established Accelerator Teams to create urgent plans that bypass routine procedures. The aim is to reduce the number of traffic accidents and resulting injuries, thereby lessening the negative social and economic impacts and enhancing the quality of life in the emirate.

The Joint Traffic Safety Committee aims to implement government accelerators to achieve tangible results in preserving lives on the roads. Therefore, it prioritises the continuous testing and application of modern methods and systems to reduce accidents and ensure smooth and safe mobility for all road users in the Emirate. Moreover, it improves educational programmes and awareness campaigns to promote following traffic laws and safe driving practices, aiming to protect national accomplishments and promote a secure traffic environment.
