Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure

Overview

Abu Dhabi is accelerating the transition to electric mobility as part of its Net Zero 2050 commitment. The updated Low and Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy focuses on expanding EV charging infrastructure, converting public and private fleets, and promoting consumer adoption to achieve 50% zero-emission vehicles by 2040. This transformation will reduce emissions, improve air quality, and lower transportation costs, creating a cleaner and smarter future for Abu Dhabi. EV implementation in Abu Dhabi is guided by the Department of Energy’s 2022 Regulatory Policy for EV Charging Infrastructure, which defines ownership, installation, and pricing frameworks. As part of this effort, plans are underway as of April 2025 to launch Charge AD, a unified public charging network. Phase 1 will include 1,000 charging stations at 400 strategic locations across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, ensuring convenient access for all users. In addition to public charging stations, the network will be further expanded through partnerships with ADNOC, which is installing charging units at its fuel stations.
